Out in Schools presented by the Out On Screen Film + Video Society began in 2004 as a pilot prject to bring queer movies to local high school. Why? Because homophobia and bullying are serious issues.
Out in Schools is proud to work in conjunction with Gay Straight Alliances (GSAs) to reduce isolation and increase the safety of learning enviroments for queer students to independant Canadian cinema made about and by youth.
We hope to encourage all students, and especially queer students, to develop a cultural voice and seek out media and art that speaks to and represents their own identities.
Our mission is to promote the production and exhibition of queer media art creating opportunities for dialogue and education among diverse communities that cross class, age, ability, ethnicity, spirituality, gender and sexuality.
The Vancouver Out On Screen Film + Video Society is a registered non-profit society in British Columbia that produces the annual Vancouver Queer Film Festival.
