The A.G.A.P.E. Youth and Young Adult Ministry of Hawaii, for the past fourteen years have been serving the youths of our Diocese community, and Pacific island neighbors.
As a youth/young Adult Ministry of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Honolulu, St. Joseph, Waipahu. The program has a open door policy to all ethnic groups and denominations. The A.G.A.P.E. Ministry enhances Christian fellowship, unity, and action within the community.
There are Youth/Young Adult communities throughout the state that meets once a week at various locations. These communities were established as a positive hangout.
During these community nights, members, and invited friends share upon their lives and assist each other in dealing with obstacles and emotions in a positive manner. Prayer and bible sharing are also a part of the evening.
Community projects, such as clean-up, graffiti clean-up, peace marches and vigils, etc. are also a part of this group and members activities.
Ministry members are encouraged to participate in other programs, such as: Drug Free Hawaii. "Y" Programs, as well as school activities. This promotes unity in the community, as well as community awareness.
Ten to twelve weekend retreats a year held throughout the state, as well as in other Pacific regions. Approximately 3200 teens and young adults have participated in this retreat, with an estimated 30% being deemed at as at-risk or marginated before making the encounter. The A.G.A.P.E. Encounter format is used on these retreats.
Sports, picnics, camping, dances, hula, arts & crafts, martial arts, movie nights and etc., are offered as alternative activities. A talent club is in the process of being formed. Our youth/young adults have also successfully formed a choir, which also includes a 7 to 8 piece band.
A.D.A.P.T., Alcohol Drug Abuse Preventive Team. This is a recent ministry program designed to assist and educate those who have a dependency problem. One to one and group counseling are available, as well as professional referrals. Directors and staff members of A.G.A.P.E. are C.S.A.P. certified. The program is very discreet in it's operation, due to a commitment of trust and confidentiality.
