Foo Fighters have released a hilarious new video which sees them transform into a rag-tag bunch of American football stars.

The new short film, which arrives ahead of the band’s pre-Superbowl show on February 2, is directed by Dave Grohl and sees the band star as The San Fernando Jackalopes: a team full of serial misfits.

For Grohl, that means a starring role as Larry Butz, the volatile star player who can’t stay out of jail long enough to play for the team.

He’s joined on the pitch by the rest of the Foos, who go far in proving that they’re definitely not cut out for a life in the NFL.

As things go predictably pear-shaped in the clip, the team is left to rely on the support of cheerleaders who also bear a startling resemblance to Grohl and co.

The ’70s style clip also sees cameos from NFL commentators Curt Menefee, Terry Bradshaw, and Michael Strahan in some very era-appropriate headwear.

Meanwhile, Grohl celebrated his 50th birthday earlier this week, and new research to mark the occasion revealed the most popular band that he’s ever played in.
