We had to listen to the radio instead of mixed tapes just to give the rest of my family a reprieve from my mouth moving. I used to sing the words a fraction early so I could be heard above the star. Accordingly, I became more infamous than famous amongst those who knew me, but I got noticed and that was a start. Needless to say, my family weren’t too happy when I was selected to sing the grade seven graduation song because from that point onward they knew I’d never shut up”.



Ellie’s music displays a modern, innovative and contemporary style that is an interesting blend of country, folk, and blues with a pop influence. Her sound is entirely unique, unmistakable, and unforgettable. The development of her distinctive style has been influenced by a wide range of artists which include Annie Lennox, Joni Mitchell, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, and Celine Dion. “The happiest and most vivid memories I have of growing up are those of parading around my bedroom singing Celine Dion and Dolly Parton songs with a hairbrush for a microphone. I was bullied throughout my entire schooling and I used to escape by imagining being on stage. The first time I actually did get up on stage I just remember feeling...A sense of finding belonging, accompanied by an all encompassing soaring sensation that just made me more determined to prove to all those bullies that now they had a good reason to be jealous. That moment changed my life. Cliché as it may sound, all day, every day, all I think about is singing, how it feels to sing, and how no matter what I'm feeling, a bit of music can bring me back”.



Ellie’s ability to bring life and meaning into her songs through the feeling in her voice was influenced by her fatherJohn Lee’s singing style. “Dad always had that way of making you connect with what he was feeling when he sang. I always have to hold back tears every time we perform the duet ‘It’s Just Because’ together because it’s about losing that father daughter relationship when you leave home and move on. Of course, it doesn’t help that he keeps looking at me with a soppy look on his face throughout the performance”.



John is an accomplished singer/guitarist/songwriter,who was a member of "New World Trio". New World had more than 5 hit records in the 60’s and numerous singles that made the top 10 worldwide. John takes an active interest in Ellie’s career encouraging and guiding her development as well as co-writing a lot of original material.



From the age of 15 she has been recording and performing in competitions, concerts, gigs, and charity events. “I haven't achieved much, (Not for lack of trying), but I've had a ball with it and I know it’s what I was put on this earth to do”. Currently she is working for the Australian Defence Force to enhance her social standing and connections to media with regards to her charitable contributions. She has already been noticed by some of the industries key players, getting air play on multiple radio stations internationally and offers from CMG Records Nashville and Veracity Music Label Australia.



Ellie is working hard to get noticed through various radio stations and a combination of local performances, youtube covers, and appearances in relevant competitions i.e. Tamworth, X-Factor etc... “I'm hungry for fame, the fire is burning and I have a whole lotta wood. To be able to do what you love and be paid for it is everybody’s dream”. Ellie is not just chasing the dream she is also aiming to significantly contribute toward the ‘Half the Sky’ movement and other charitable organisations. “All I've ever prayed for was the ability to make a difference with my gift and that is my idea of a world a little bit brighter”.



Ellie May Lee has now teamed up with country music’s gifted guitarist/producer Brendan Radford to provide a demo EP, music video, and press-kit to the agents, managers, radio stations, and concert promoters of Australia. The music video production will be featured on the Country Music Channel and entered into the country music charts 2014/2015.
