Group Description:
This group is dedicated to the free exchange of ideas and information concerning every aspect and branch of horoscopic astrology, regardless of background, and philosophical or spiritual views. This is not a ’Sun Sign’ group, and the intent is to discuss real horoscopic astrology and not to make sweeping character generalizations based upon the position of the Sun in the tropical zodiac at a person’s birth. If you only seek ’Sun Signs’ then this is not the group for you. We intend to discuss much more than just Sun signs. If you want to find out more about the ancient art of horoscopic astrology, then this is the place.
What is horoscopic astrology?:
Horoscopic astrology is a very specific and advanced type of astrology that developed in the Mediterranean region in the 2nd and 1st centuries BCE. It can essentially be summed up as the practice of casting astrological charts that reflect the apparent positions of a variety of celestial bodies and points from the perspective of the individual at any given moment in time in order to interpret the inherent meaning underlying the alignment of the planets at that moment. The idea is that the placement of the planets at any given moment in time reflects the nature of that moment and especially anything which is born then, and this can be analyzed using a horoscopic chart and a variety of rules for interpreting the ’language’ or symbols contained therein. The most prevalent application of horoscopic astrology is to use it to analyze the birth charts of individuals in order to read character, psychological traits, and to some extent destiny.
In ancient Hellenistic astrology the rising sign demarcated the first celestial house of a chart, and the word for the ascendant was horoskopos. This is the word that our term "horoscope" derives from, and in modern times this word has come to denote the birth chart of an individual as a whole.

Book Club: Cosmos & Psyche Topic started by Chris
Initial post:
"I realize that it has been a while since I proposed the idea of the book club last summer and we read our first book The Moment of Astrology, but I think that it is time to start this up again and to move on to the next book. I think that someone, maybe Trish (?), proposed a while ago that the next book should be Richard Tarnas’ relatively recent book Cosmos and Psyche, and I think that this would be a good one to restart the book club with."

Rules of the group:
1) This is not a ’Sun Sign’ astrology group, so please don’t start threads about ’Sun signs’ and related generalizations unless you have something particularly interesting to say or discuss.
2) Flaming and spamming will not be tolerated. "Trolling" isn’t cool either.
3) Please avoid posting the same topic repeatedly or variations of a single topic at a given time. It will keep the forum clean. Before you post take a minute to see if the topic that you want to talk about has already been covered in another thread recently.
4) As a general rule, please do not create new threads solely for the purpose of requesting others to read your natal chart. Post your chart in other preexisting threads such as the ’Everyone’s birth chart’ thread. This is also a good place to introduce yourself to the group.
5) Please refrain from posting meaningless threads, one word (or short) non-sense posts, threads not related to astrology, or the such.
6) Please treat other group members with respect, even if you disagree with their argument, position, tradition, beliefs, hair style, etc.
7) Please do not bite the newcomers. Remember to assume good faith first and approach them in a polite manner.
8) Don’t use the forum as a place to vent personal grievances, or to publicize private disputes that you are having with individuals. It is an astrology forum.
9) No legal threats, or threats of any kind for that matter.
10) Cite your sources properly when you are quoting from another author’s work, and don’t reproduce entire articles here unless you have the permission of the original author to do so.
