Island Group focuses on the vision of Aldous Huxley expressed in his last novel Island. The question he attempted to answer there was how can we create a peaceful and sensible culture which helps each member reach its highest potential. Islanders create experiments to fulfill this goal.
Like Huxley, we hope to blend some of the neglected ideas from our archaic past with the most current ideas from contemporary life. A non-inclusive (but long) list of ideas we are interested in include: mysticism, shamanism, tribal culture, paganism, sacred plants, psychedelics, entheogens, nanotechnology, transhumanism, intelligence-increase, altered states of consciousness, humanistic and transpersonal psychology, self-actualization, alternative lifestyles and cultures, genetic engineering, hedonic engineering, the "new physics", systems thinking and much more. |
