Group Leader:
Mittens [the Cat]

WELCOME! You have joined an anti-declaw, pro spay/neuter group! Read our group guidelines before posting!

Want to Join *Cat Lovers*?

If your profile is private, or you are under 16 and have a private profile by default, you MUST MESSAGE ME and tell me you agree to the rules and want to join. (then click "join group"!) If you are 14 or 15, and your profile is set so that only friends can send you messages, your request will be denied if you do not send me a message. If I cannot reach you when you ask to join, I have to deny your request. Sorry, but that is part of the rules due to trolling and spam problems.

Join STOP Cruelty Against Animals, too!

Have you requested to join *Cat Lovers*?

Please see our main group page for information on joining the group. If your profile is one of the following, you must send me a personal message to let me know you want to join, and you must agree to the guidelines. Agreeing to the guidelines means you are pro-spay/neuter, and you are anti-declaw. If you see nothing wrong with people keeping their pets intact, and/or you see nothing wrong with declawing, this group is not for you.

If you haven’t educated yourself on declawing, please click the link to our pinned topic on Declawing Facts.

1. Private profiles (this includes members who are 14/15 and have private profiles by default.)

2. Teens, (see above) including those with no pet or animal on their profile. (sorry, but some teens ruin it for the rest of you by joining our group only to post cat hate pics and other immature garbage) We have many great, mature teens in the group. Feel free to be amongst them!

3. A new profile/new myspace member with no info on your profile (we cannot tell if you’re a real person if your profile is blank, with only Tom as a friend)

4. Any profile with only one default picture. Spam and porn fake profiles usually only have one pic in their album.

5. Profiles with one name as the display name, yet another as the sign-up. This specifically means something like this: "Jennifer has requested to join *Cat Lovers*", but the profile display name says "xXx Stephanie Seduction xXx", leading us to believe a profile is fake, or was phished.

6. Profiles set to private AND with messaging/email set to "friends only." If I cannot message you, I can’t even send you this information.

Thanks!

Mittens the Cat

First Time Posters -- a few things to know about this group, BEFORE YOU POST!! Failure to read and understand guidelines can result in deletion of your membership.

1) This group is called Cat Lovers for a reason. (BTW, we love all animals) We are a helpful and fun loving bunch of people, but when confronted with senseless or stupid behavior by pet owners, and helpful info is ignored or avoided, we will speak up and some of us can be abrasive. Our pets are family members to us, and we don’t take it lightly when we see unnecessary suffering inflicted on animals. Disagreements are fine (to a point!), and discussion is encouraged, but we do have limits for when we believe the line has been crossed and an animal is being treated inhumanely. De-clawing, abandonment, overfeeding, starving or malnourishment, physical or psychological abuse, leaving pets intact (not spaying or neutering them), not taking good care of their illnesses, letting them suffer from a severe and incurable condition, are just a few of these things. If you cannot afford to take your cat to the vet, and something is very wrong, you must get help for him/her no matter what. Suffering is cruelty.

2) Remember to not associate a tone of voice to words online. What might appear to be an accusatory post might be a helpful and concerned post. Be careful when reading, as with posting.

3) Know that we are not veterinarians, nor do we come anywhere close to being a satisfactory substitute for a vet. We (or even a vet, for that matter) cannot diagnose any health problem of your cat with 100% certainty over the internet, even if the problem seems to be non-critical. NOTHING can replace an exam by a good vet. If your cat suffers from severe symptoms (high fever, lethargy, heavy and persistent vomiting and/or diarrhea, not using the litter box for a day or longer, loss of appetite, and so on), TAKE YOUR ANIMAL TO THE VET IMMEDIATELY. We would like to know about your pet, but your best bet is to post here after you have taken her to the vet. There’s no sense in posting here first, because we will only tell you exactly this: take your pet to the vet! It will be money well spent. We understand completely if you post here after calling a vet and needing support from others who care as much about their furry family members. Feel free to post and share!

4) If you’re looking for a new home for your pet: please read item 1) again. And consider that many of us here work tirelessly to place abandoned, abused, injured or stray animals, which is a stressful and frustrating activity. It is difficult to see animals being disposed of by people who found a new hobby or who throw out their living, feeling pet because it peed on their lifeless, replaceable carpet. Accordingly, the tolerance level for people who are getting rid of their pets because they became a nuisance is low, and we will not act kindly towards such owners. Rest assured, this group is NOT a place where one can find someone to simply unload ones unwanted cat on with no questions asked. If you understand this and are not like that, and want us to help you, then by all means, do post. We will do whatever we can (but we cannot do wonders either).

(5) We will not tolerate members who join to start flame wars, to repeatedly question a topic being debated/discussed or who feel declawing is OK for maintaining their furniture, carpet or non-living object. There are many other cat groups; find another. Lastly, we will not coddle you here. If you neglect your pets, ignore reasonable advice and put your pets in danger, YOU WILL BE REAMED AFTER WE ATTEMPT TO TEACH YOU TO DO THE RIGHT THING. Please, if you have asked for help, pay attention and don’t put your cat’s life at risk!

I am an Animal Rescuer

My job is to assist God’s creatures. I was born with the need to fulfill their needs. I take in new family members without plan, thought or selection.

I have bought dog or cat food with my last dime. I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand. I have hugged someone vicious and afraid.

I have fallen in love a thousand times and I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body. I have Animal Friends and friends who have animal friends.I don’t often use the word "pet."

I notice those lost at the road side and my heart aches. I will hand raise a field mouse and make friends with a vulture. I know of no creature unworthy of my time.

I want to live forever if there aren’t animals in Heaven, but I believe there are. Why would God make something so perfect and leave it behind? We may be master of the animals, but the animals have mastered themselves-- something people still haven’t learned.

War and Abuse makes me hurt for the world, but a rescue that makes the news gives me hope for mankind. We are a quiet but determined army, and making a difference every day. There is nothing more necessary than warming an orphan, nothing more rewarding than saving a life; No higher recognition than watching them thrive. There is no greater joy than seeing a baby play who only days ago, was too weak to eat.

I am an Animal Rescuer, My work is never done, My home is never quiet. My wallet is always empty, but my heart is always full. In the game of life, we have already won.
