How to distinguish between fur and faux fur ?
FEEL: the best way is to feel the difference by rolling the hairs between finger and thumb.
Fur: feels smooth and soft, easily rolls between the finger
Faux Fur: feels coarse
LOOK: collars of longhaired fur - blow on the hairs so they divide
Fur: often made up of several layers of thin, almost curly hairs which form a dense under-wool, through which the longer hairs stick out. The base is leather.
Faux fur: simpler in structure, individual hairs are often the same length and even in colour.
PRICK WITH A PIN: through the base
Fur: the leather resists, pin is hard to push through
Faux fur: pin easily goes through the base
BURN TEST: (pull, very carefully) a few hairs from the fur and hold them to a flame.
Fur: singes like a human hair and smells similar
Faux fur: melts like plastic and smells like burnt plastic. Forms small plastics balls at the ends that feel hard between finger and thumb.

It is the Chinese Companion Animal Protection Network in English.
It includes some local civil dog rescue centres: go to member project on the top.
We can contact those people running the shelters for stray dogs, actually we need to asap, to offer help to rescue those dogs and companion animals who are in danger.
I have read articles about these shelters in small scales, they offer food, shelter, vacinations to stray dogs and abandoned companion animals throughout china!
They need our assistance and support !
We need them as well to save the animals there!

OIPA AND OUR GROUP PETITIONS SENT !
The written petition to the european parliament which was done by OIPA Headquarters in italy had 10.000 signatures. It was sent by post to the European Parliament.
OIPA's petition to Markos Kyprianou, Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection, was sent by mail directly from the sites (OIPA Italy/OIPA International).
In 1 year more than 20.000 signatures were collected and sent with the letter asking that as the new leader of the EU Commission, that he impose a ban cat and dog fur, immediately.

At the same time our group's supporters were presented to the Members of the European Parliment - with the following letter.

Dear Members of the European Parliment
As Singers/Songwriters/Musicians UNITED against the fur trade, we submit our voices as one, to speak out against the terrible cruelty inflicted on sentient beings used mercilessly within the fur trade. Dogs, cats, and other fur bearing animals, including wild species, are held captive until their horrific deaths, their coats to become fashion and fur trimmed trinkets to adorn human bodies and to decorate shelves.
In 2006 this practice is unacceptable. To treat animals in an extremely cruel manner is beyond belief, and to acknowledge that this trade happens every day, is shameful.
So, to stand aside and say nothing would be an unforgivable betrayal of our beautiful and trusting friends, the animals.
We say NO to the fur trade and we stand tall and proud in defence of the innocent.
We use our artistic camaraderie and collective creative voice to be the indomitable spirit of our fallen angels, and we pledge to speak out for those destined for the most painful death of all, such poor wretched chattels within the blood bath of the fur trade of tomorrow.
Long may compassion live, long may free speech live and long may we unite to do what is right!
We must save them just as we must mourn those already fallen under the wheels of this destructive machine, greed.

The following story is what I was told happening in China. As a cat lover, I hope you can let public know this terrible tragedy and then the cats might get some help.
840 kitties were struggling for survive!
Animal protectors at Shanghai, China stopped a truck on July 6, 2007. Forty two cages, each of which has about 20 cats and kittens inside, were found in the truck. Some cats were dead and some were dying. These cats were selling to restaurants at Guangdong province, China, as meals. Some of the cats still have collar with them and should have been somebody's beloved pets.
The police there said they had no right to save these cats, so animal protectors have to buy these cats themselves. All the local news also refused to report this story.

840 cats had been caught in Shanghai. They were delivering to Guangdong’s restaurants
A truck was kept by some animals’ protectors in Shanghai on 6th July, 07. 840 cats were found in this truck. They were kept in forty-two small bamboo boxes. Some of them were dead and the others were dying of hot weather, no food and water. They were delivering to Guangdong and would be sold to local restaurants.
The animals’ protectors from a website---bbs.movshow.com---called the police. The drivers showed a legal health quarantine document, so the police said they could not detain this truck for a long time. The drivers told the protectors if they wanted these cats, they had to buy them, about $2 US dollars each. And they also said everyday a truck full of cats, like theirs, went to Guangdong. That means nearly 1,000 cats are sold to restaurants. All these cats were dead on the way or dead on dinner tables.
Cats and snakes soup is a popular dish in Guangdong. The materials are lost and stray cats and wild snakes. The animals’ protectors in Shanghai and Beijing are trying to feed cats around city, desexing them and help them being adopted for years. Until this morning, some cats had been bought by these protectors. However, 840 is a big number.
Unfortunately, protectors had been refused by local press. Protectors released widely this news on internet and organized a donation for these poor cats. They hope to get help from HongKong and oversea press.
