I almost died on my birthday.
Well, really it was my birthday eve. But I'm not getting into that story right now--remind me one day and I'll tell you. The point is, one recent year I was on vacation in Cancun and after that near death experience, I found myself sitting on my balcony's chaise lounge, in a state of profound gratefulness. Lying back and breathing in the salty air and finding peace, I looked on and on into the ocean's vastness, past the sand, past it's milky mouth lapping over translucent blue and on to that color of ocean that shows that, yes, the ocean is deep. It felt like my gaze was traveling forever, but eventually it stopped. I could see where the ocean ended and the sky began. I remember thinking, "no wonder they thought it was flat," right before it happened.
Above the horizon line, about a quarter of a wink above my eyelid, a light clicked on. It was high enough for me to know it wasn't an ocean liner and it was bright enough for me to know it wasn't a star. I kept looking and I sat there, stunned, breath taken, watching the light grow brighter and higher and rounder. I sat there and I couldn't believe I was witnessing something so beautiful. I was watching the moon rise. It was amazing! I got to witness the exact, perfect moment the sun said to the moon, "it's time to wake up." And the moon listened. It opened it's eye and shined it's light on me, sitting right there on that balcony.
I see a good house party like the moon rising. When it's happening just right, I can feel it. I feel the Sun shining it's light on you, the DJ. And in listening, you rise up and shine your reflected light on us, the House Heads. And it's right then that we House Heads say that whatever has happened in life before now, tonight is going to be a beautiful night...so let the light shine.
