PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN

Pirates of the Caribbean is a wildly popular theme park attraction at four Disney theme parks. The success of the attraction, which sends guests on a boat ride though a Spanish town sacked by pirates, spawned a trilogy of films, all of which are now available on DVD.

Pirates of the Caribbean
The original Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland park which opened in 1967, is widely regarded as one of the best attractions at Disneyland and is the last attraction Walt Disney personally worked on before his death in December 1966. Located in New Orleans Square in Disneyland, Pirates of the Caribbean is an exciting audio-animatronics extravaganza taking guests through ghostly grottos, a ransacked Caribbean port, and Pirate battles. The unique attraction also houses an equally unique dining experience, The Blue Bayou Restaurant which can be seen from the bataeux carrying guests through the sleepy southern Bayou at the beginning of the attraction.
In 2006, Pirates of the Caribbean was extensively enhanced and welcomed Captain Jack Sparrow, Captain Barbossa, and Davey Jones from the hit motion pictures to the classic attraction. Along with the new character additions, the attraction recieved major upgrades to its sound system and show lighting, and numerous additional props and special effects were added.
Pirate's Lair at Tom Sawyer Island
In May 2007, Disneyland's iconic Tom Sawyer Island was transformed into Pirate's Lair at Tom Sawyer Island! Taking its inspiration from Tom and Huck’s pirate games in the classic Mark Twain story, as well as from the renewed interest in pirates generated by the “Pirates of the Caribbean” attraction and motion pictures, Pirate's Lair at Tom Sawyer Island built upon the hands-on play and exploration that made the island a popular experience for children and adults for the past 50 years.

When Walt Disney World opened in 1971, Magic Kingdom park guests were disappointed to find none of the pirates that had become such a hit in California. Because of Florida's close proximity to the real Caribbean, the Imagineers originally had planned on creating an all-new attraction called "Western River Expedition," showcasing adventures in the wild west instead of pirates. Yet, after the overwhelming public demand, Pirates of the Caribbean opened in the Magic Kingdom's Adventureland in December 1973.

Imagineers faced a problem when the iconic "Dead Men Tell No Tales" theme from the previous two incarnations of Pirates of the Caribbean was lost in translation when the pirates moved to Japan. Literally translated, "dead men tell no tales" became "no mouth on a dead person," which certainly would have confused the Japanese audiences. Eventually the Imagineers overcame the language barrier and Pirates of the Caribbean opened in a New Orleans-themed subset of Adventureland in Tokyo Disneyland in 1983. The New Orleans setting also allowed the Tokyo version of the attraction to house the Blue Bayou Restaurant, which had not been included in the Flordia attraction. | | Disneyland Resort Paris
Pirates of the Caribbean opened with Disneyland Paris in 1992, but the latest version of Pirates of the Caribbean had a few surprises in its cannon. Imagineers took a different angle with the new attraction and essentially flipped the storyline, placing the treasure caves sequence at the end of the ride, making a somewhat altered storyline where you follow the pirates until thier death instead of going back in time to see how they met their demise.
