What comes to mind when you think about the combination of letters “LMNOP” the alphabet perhaps? Well in New Zealand you will hear two explanations of what comes to mind, the second one being A Kiwi rock band under the name Elemeno P.
Elemeno P haven’t been around long, in fact they only released there first single in February of 2002 and played there first live show with a support slot to a massive Canadian band known as Sum 41.
Elemeno P Made a demo in Justyns flat under the band name of Pookie with there first bassist Paul, they sent copies off to all the major record labels, but unfortunately had no reply’s, Elemeno P may simply not have been if Universal had not picked up a copy of there demo and listened to it.
Elemeno P by this time had completely forgotten about all that rock star success they had once dreamt about, so it came as a big surprise when Universal called and asked to meet the band to talk Contracts.
They were given rock star treatment, got a manager and a recording contract and everything that goes with it, they promptly released there debut single Fast times in Tahoe, which reached Number 32 on the NZ Charts, and was Number 1 on Channel Z for over 3 weeks.
Unfortunately rock bands will always have minor disagreements and Paul decided to mutually part the band, making way for good friend of the band Jules, to take over Bass duties until they find a permanent Bassist. They then released Nirvana which was also a hit.
Following this, they released one of there most well known songs, that being Everyday a Saturday, with a pretty cool video to go along with it.
The band were now constantly being asked and mobbed by Fans when is the album coming out, following lots of shows, the band had a large Fan Base, and released there album on July 4th 2003 known as “Love and Disrespect” along with the extremely popular single “Verona” both of which went straight to Number 1 in there respective Charts.
Who knows what the future holds for Elemeno P? They probly do… but we shall have to wait and see how far these young New Zealanders go.
