What is Toledo? What does it mean to be from Toledo? Ask this question to someone from out of town from Detroit, Cleveland or Columbus and listen to their response. Chances are we wont be flattered by what we hear. Toledo, it seems, has been cursed with a poor reputation.


I was curious about it, so, I began talking to people around Toledo about our hometown, what it meant to them, and what they see happening here in the future. I was surprised by what I found. I could find no trace of the do-nothing apathy I presumed plagued this city. What I found instead was a serious undercurrent developing; people getting together and sharing ideas, starting organizations and websites, people banding together to promote their music, their art, film, poetry, all in the name of forming a community. With all of these motivated people excited to make a change in this city the question seemed obvious. What would happen if we actually did something about it?

We live in an amazing place were time and time again, we have seen how one person truly can make a difference in the world around them. So if one person can do that much, what can 1,000 people working hand in hand towards a common goal do? The possibilities are limitless. Together, we have the power to change this town forever. We just need to decide to do it.

The Toledo Independent Music Collective is the first step towards achieving this greater goal and its coming soon. So what is the Collective? Its a center for providing practice spaces, a recording studio, live music, film showings, art exhibitions and a lot more. If this is going to be a success, we need as many people join us, so, how you can be a part?
