What is a " Bali Kendang " ??????

Pronounced ("ken-dong"), is a conical-shaped drum stretched with goat or cowskin on each side and played with two hands, or one hand and one stick (pongool).

THE KENDANG is usually played in duet with a unique method whereby the duo trade off elements of the same rhythm. The effect is a volleying of parts of a single rhythm in stereo across the stage like a tennis match. The drum is used to guide the pace of the gamelan orchestra as well as to accent the actions and gestures of the actors of the story being accompanied.

Gamelan is the name given to any orchestra in Bali and Java that consists of gongs, metallophones, percussion ("kendang"), flutes, strings and other instruments.

There are usually two different sized kendangs in a gamelean orchestra ("gong - keyba"), and these orchestras can consist of up to forty members.

Zurya Drum Collaboration is a group of Balinese Masters of the traditional Kendang Drums and Percussion. The Drummers have taken their Art beyond the traditional Ceremonies and Community Events in which they usually perform.
Bringing it to mainstream and joining the world music genre, they truly introduce "walking to the beat of a different drum". ZDC made its debut 2 years ago and already played at hip clubs in Bali such as Deja Vu and was featured at the Nusa Dua Festival,Kuta Karnival . They have joinded in with techno Djs and added latest dance music to the performances. They are up for collaboration with any other artistic and musical performers, just to see how far they can go!!!
