How we became Rangers

It all started in 1872 with two brothers, Peter and Moses McNeil, and two friends, Peter Campbell and William McBeath. who called the club Argyle. Rangers came from an English rugby club. Rangers Foundation Year was 1873.

A little History

Rangers FC was established in 1873, fifteen years before the foundation of its great rival Celtic FC. For the last 125 years these two clubs have dominated the Scottish game, with Rangers winning more than 100 domestic honours. Rangers also won the European Cup Winners' Cup back in 1972 beating Dynamo Moscow in a thrilling 3-2 victory. In recent years Rangers' status as one of the largest clubs in Britain has enabled it to create a team of international stars. In a city obsessed with football there is a large supporter base with approximately 36,800 season ticket holders. Outside Glasgow, Rangers is extremely popular with over 800 fan clubs worldwide. This means that the club can easily fill its famous Ibrox stadium and has substantial potential in merchandising and television revenues. Rangers consistently qualifies for European competitions, has one of the best grounds in the world and is creating a youth policy based around a state of the art player development centre.
