Open hours are sketchy right now at best. As soon as the fall semester begins, the Freewheel will be back to its normal schedule. Let's hope we can get SUNY Stony Brook to give us some more space!!!<

The Freewheel Collective is a non-profit, non-hierarchal group of individuals who are dedicated to aiding the local community with issues pertaining to bicycles and cyclists. With your help, Freewheel hopes to establish a working community bicycle shop which will repair donated and found bicycles, offer free and/or low-cost repairs and bicycle education programs.
Freewheel also hopes to encourage and celebrate bike riding as an ecologically and economically sound form of transportation by organizing community rides and "Free Bike Repair" days.
Freewheel aspires to raise awareness of the benefits of bike riding to the local community, whilst providing affordable or free bicycle maintenance.
Freewheel needs competent volunteer bicycle mechanics! You don't have to be an expert mechanic: just willing to share the skills that you do have with the rest of the Long Island bicycle community. The more volunteers we get, the more extensive our open hours can be.
Want to learn to be a bike mechanic? We run regular skill-sharing sessions on Tuesday nights. Anyone can show up for these sessions anytime.
Interested in joining the Freewheel Collective? Why not attend our next meeting? You have the power to contribute!
Freewheel makes it into Newsday!!!
The short article below on the Freewheel Collective appeared in Newday on Tuesday, August 16th!!! Yea! Exposure! You can check out the article by clicking here.
Freewheel moves to Stony Brook University!!!
Freewheel was a fully functioning bike shop within the dearly departed and infamous Long Island Freespace up until September of 2005. But we have since found a new home!!!!
Freewheel has been registered as an on-campus student club at SUNY Stony Brook. Meetings are held in the Club Alley in he basement of the Student Union, every Tuesday from 7pm to 10pm. All are welcome to attend! Further open hours and more information will be posted here soon. Viva la bicicleta!
Repairs will be undertaken at this time.
Directions to Club Alley:
1. Enter the Stony Brook University Campus. Enter at the Main Entrance off Nichols road if possible.
2. Take the first available right, which should be Circle Road (the name may have been changed, but it is the first right). There is a terrible, gross construction project here, so just keep right.
3. Follow this road to Stadium Road, and make a left turn. It bends around and ends at a big parking lot.
4. The student union is adjacent to this parking lot. Before 7pm it may cost $1 to use this lot.
5. If you get lost, just yell at people on the sidewalk until someone tells you how to get to the stadium, because the student union is across the parking lot from it.
6. enter the Student Union, and in the middle of the building there is a stairway inside an atrium. Go down to the basement.
7. Make a left out of the stairwell.
8. Make a left around the corner.
9. Continue down the hallway, and about the halfway point, there is the unmarked door on your right in a little alcove which is for the Club Alley. It is just past the bathrooms.
We are located in the far back corner by the fire exit.
This is from memory, but I think it is pretty accurate. I want to add this to the Website, so if I'm wrong, correct it please.
