The Dirty Three, consisting of Warren Ellis, Mick Turner, and Jim White have made some of the most innovative and beautiful music for the past decade. Ranging from chaotic epics to lulling reprises these songs defy modern music's necessity for order and structure. Ellis' violin (often using a humbucker for a pickup) is the voice of the band, being just as haunting as it is explosive. All the while Turner's guitar flows underneath like a lazy backwoods creek as White's sporadic drums create sound more akin to rain and thunder than a percussive instrument. All of these elements create soundscapes that bypass your cerebral inhibitions and dig straight into your soul like a warm memory or a lost dream.
