What is RELAY?

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s national signature activity
…and so much more.

  • Relay For Life is a 24-hour team event, combining the best elements of a family campout, a block party, and a walkathon. Teams of 10-15 people set up their campsite and take turns walking the track “relay-style” to raise money and to demonstrate their commitment to the fight against cancer.

  • Relay For Life is a celebration – a celebration of cancer survivors and a celebration of LIFE. The Survivors Walk applauds the courage and strength of cancer survivors. The Caregivers Walk recognizes the important contribution made by caregivers in a survivor’s battle against cancer. It is a very touching way for our survivors to say “thank you”.

  • Relay For Life is a time for reflection. We hold a Luminaria Ceremony at dusk, lighting candles in honor of survivors, and in memory of those who did not win the fight. This very emotional ceremony is a tribute to everyone who has been touched by this disease.

Why Should I Participate in RELAY?

  • To raise MONEY to fight cancer; funding cancer research grants, education programs and services for cancer patients and their families.

  • To raise AWARENESS about cancer, so that people realize the importance of – and then practice – prevention and early detection of cancer.

  • To raise a shout of CELEBRATION for those who have battled cancer and won, empowering them to share their strength and courage with others.

  • To raise the SPIRITS of those who have lost a loved one to cancer, and to let them know that they are never alone. We are all in this fight together.
