Be-in, a.k.a. Happening, is an outdoor counter-culture extravaganza. The first happenings or be-ins were held frequently in the late 1960's. Our version of a Be-In combines an acoustic and electric amplified concert with a b.y.o. picnic, guest speakers, poetry readings, creative arts, face and body painting, etc. There will also be an AfterParty.
We’ve featured a stellar line-up of performers in past years including such names as Stradlatter (aka Jadda Bloom), Halfstep, The Blue Scene, 1973, Purple Operator, Jones Crusher (now The Crusher), Ricanstruction, George & Julius, The Others, Jay Mankita, Delicious Trees, David Brown, Mikey & the Merry Pranksters, Jebus, Mikey & The Angels, Brandon Burdon, Jorge Renderos and Try Me Live to name a few! Poets and MCs in the past have included Steve Kramer, Lisa Cowley, Kevin Rice, Laura Pizzini and more. We also featured DJs theDEXorphan and Bill McNulty, and political speakers Mitchel Cohen, Susan Blake, Julius Margolin, William Rafti and others!
Last year's lineup was no exception, as our daytime schedule featured The Skeevotz, Illuminati Murdock, George & Julius, More Than Nothing, Blacklisted & The Banned, Kinky Porcupine and False Alarm! Interspersed between some of these were guest speakers Aron "The Pieman" Kay, Mitchel Cohen and Brian O'Haire! Emcees included the experienced Bill McNulty and Ahmad Ali of WUSB Stony Brook! Then it was off to Fadeley's for the "unofficial" AfterParty which ironically starred all of our headliners: Reckoning, Movement, Katie Pearlman Band and Blind Robbery! Jesse Pagano, Play Like Feeling and Bryan Gallo even did acoustic sets in between! Then in Sept., we set the tone for '09 with our best "official" AfterParty to date starring our most eclectic "mini" lineup: Karmasutra, Free Grass Union, Purple Operator, Parlor Entertainment (Jazz) and DJ theDEXorphan! Topping these last 2 AfterParties will be tough, but we'll try our best.
