Here's what the Hitchhiker's Guide has to say on the subject of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, or rather of itself:

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wonder in and of itself. Certainly the most succesful book to ever come out of the great Publishing Corporations of Ursa Minor.
It is the foremost repository for all knowledge in the known galaxy and far surpasses the Encyclopedia Galactica both in its wide acceptance and sales and this is for two reasons.
First, it is slighty cheaper.
And Second it has the words, "DON'T PANIC" Printed in large freindly letters on the cover.
Naturally though there are shortcomings with a book based on an entire galaxy.
As we've already covered, space is quite large and unweildy and manages to make it difficult to compile information of every habitable planet purely for the fact that there's just so much there....even when it doesn't much look like it.
This creates a major problem within the Guide in that it provides for vast amounts of knowledge and experience to be given that may or may not be true.
It's certianly nearly impossible to proof read everything that comes in so naturally, alot of muck manages to slip through the proverbial cracks of our collective carelessness.
However, on the whole the book does lend itself greatly to anyone who may be on holiday, or may be escaping from a horde of Vicious Bug Blatter Beast of Traals.
[If the latter is the case, please inform your local Galactic Astrozoology Aversion Council, as we at the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy would really like to know, (1) how badly you must have angered an entire horde of Vicious Bug Blatter Beast of Traals, and (2) How it is exactly that they are managing to follow you.]
If you have a complaint to file with the Guide please proceed to Ursa Minor Beta's beautiful sunny beaches and speak with the bug at the front desk.
