We, the Undersigned, believe that your proposed cuts to the Fire Department will have a dire impact on public safety. Fewer fire companies mean that existing companies will have to cover greater
distances. Increased distance means increased response-time. In other words, it will take longer for the Fire Department to respond to calls for emergency service. We understand how critical response time is when someone has to call 911 and their property is on fire or they have a loved-one in distress. Seconds count, and your cuts will cost those seconds and possibly one of us or our neighbors' life or property.
Your proposed cuts will also greatly increase the danger that our brave fire fighters face every day as well. They will have to do more with less and they just shouldn’t have to. The Fire Department has lost two members in the last few months, and that is before you have implemented the cuts. We think their job is dangerous enough without these cuts. We believe that the Philadelphia Fire Department should not want for anything and should be fully funded and their budget even increased to render them capable of their ever expanding role.
In short, We will not stand for any cuts to the Fire Department and demand that none be made.
