This group is for people who advocate the rights of Pit Bulls. This group may be used to try to re-home shelter Pit Bulls, but not for breeding purposes or for selling puppies! If you dislike Pit Bulls, fight and/or support dogfighting, support the irresponisible breeding and/or backyard breeding of ANY animal, support and/or defend Mike Vick, and only like Pit Bulls because "It's what's cool," then don't even waste your time joining this group; I will just deny you.

Pit Bulls obviously have a bad reputation and many people do not want to own a Pit Bull because of that. But, people still keep breeding Pit Bulls because it's easy money and it's "cool." Pit Bulls are very loyal, pain-tolerant, and enjoy pleasing their owners. The average person thinks a Pit Bull is just a people killer and child eater and are vicious monsters. But, we, the Pit Bull lovers, know this is completely false. These innocent animals are the one's being punished because of irresponsible, naive, and careless people. It's morally unacceptable to accept and allow dog fighting to go on. It's cruel and disgusting. It's amazing how people have no heart or feelings. If it were up to a Pit Bull, I don't think they would look forward to fighting a dog. So, just go home and love your dog!

Common Traits and things to expect from the breed are:
* High levels of exercise EVERY DAY.
* A wonderful family dog.
* A very "people loving" dog.
* A dog that can be destructive to furniture or other objects if left alone.
* An easy to train dog that can make a wonderful partner in agility, jogging, or other activities.
* May not get along with other dogs, especially of the same sex.
* A dog that you cannot leave unattended with other dogs, no matter how well they get along.
* A pet that you may be unable to take to off-leash dog parks.
* A poor guard dog; it is not a breed trait to be defensive of car, home, etc.
* A social dog; most pit bulls greet strangers like long lost friends.
* A healthy dog that is not especially prone to many genetic diseases.
* A 12 + year commitment.
* A dog that you may be unable to travel with due to breed specific restrictions.
* Criticism from friends/family members that are misinformed about the breed.
* A dog that requires high quality food to maintain health.
* Vet bills for regular check ups, spay/neuter, vaccinations, and flea and other parasite treatments.
* A dog that is safe with people. Human aggression, severe shyness, and instability are not traits typically found in Pit bulls.

DON'T BREED OR BUY, WHILE DOG'S LIKE THIS DIE OR WIND UP IN SHELTER'S.
Responsible Owners

1) Responsible owners understand the breed is in a "fad" population crisis. They understand the shelters are full of purebred pit bulls dying every day.
2) Responsible owners do not breed puppies for resale. They do NOT breed without a full waiting list. They do not advertise in newspapers or the internet to sell their puppies.
3) Responsible owners do not breed animals which have not been health tested and have correct temperament and conformation. No responsible breeder produces more than one litter a year. Period.
4) Responsible owners will faithfully steward the breed, leaving it in the same condition it was handed to them. They do not change the breed to fit fads such as larger size, overdone bodies or to fit show ring criteria. The do not mix American Staffordshire and American pit bull bloodlines. They understand the purpose and physical requirements of their breed's uses.
5) Responsible owners NEVER let their dog roam. Notice I did not say "allow" - I said "let". This means they are careful and do not allow "accidents" to happen. They take precautions and spend the time and money to contain their dog appropriately. They are smarter than their dog...
6) They do NOT tolerate unsound behavior in the breed. If their dog is unsound, and shows unwarranted human aggression, they euthanize the dog. They do not make excuses for their dog.
7) They manage their dogs appropriately. They do not keep their dogs in inappropriate situations which do not allow the dogs sufficient exercise, nor do they put their dogs in inappropriate situations, such as taking them to an off-lead dog park. They understand and respect their dog's heritage. They socialize and train their dogs to be good citizens
