In our case the cliché holds true, “if you want something done, you’ve got to do it yourself!” Chicka Boom was formed because my partner and I had previously shopped around and did not find the ease and quality we were looking for.

Chicka Boom is not the only company that offers adorable hair accessories, Nordstrom, Claire’s, My Baby Jo, and a few others offer them as well. What makes Chicka Boom unique from the competition is that we offer quality and personalization. Our customers have the opportunity to create their very own style of flower, one that no one else owns.

Previously, I had made purchases online and found the products to be rather pricey. In addition, to my disappointment, my favorite floral barrette fell apart after being worn only a few times. We are aware that Chicka Boom is not the only company that offers cute, flirty accessories, but frankly, we knew we could do better!

In what sometimes feels like a world full of “same”, Chicka Boom offers “different”. We believe that in order to be successful one thing we needed was to be accessible. Furthermore, it is important to us, since my personal “accessory failure”, that the merchandise we offer is high in quality (see our guarantee on page 4) and our hope is that our customers will come back for more and refer their friends and family to us. Yes, one of our objectives is to make money; however, none of our goals include taking all of our customer’s money. In most cases, our products are 50% to 75% cheaper than our competition’s! In fact, one of the online companies that sell floral hair accessories sells them for around $45.00! By purchasing from Chicka Boom, consumers are supporting the “underdog” and saving in the process. You see? It is really a win/win for everyone!

My partner and I set out to create a company where anyone can go for a classy, sassy present … for themselves, their friends, girlfriends – hey, even boyfriends! (We do not discriminate). We are pro pin-up girl and pro Mae West. Our mascot (see image 1.1) embodies the sultry look we love. Furthermore, we chose Mae West as another representative of who we are because of the character and charisma she possesses and all of her famous quotes; one in particular we use on our website and all promotional materials, “It’s better to be looked over, than over-looked”. Mae was fabulous because she was not the prettiest or thinnest woman yet she was still incredibly sexy and people were drawn to her anyway. She pushed the envelope, she was clever, classy and sassy – she had moxie! This is what the Chicka Boom founders identify with.
