The premise of this group is an open forum on a variety of aspects of the world of art. Some basic questions: How does value come about?; What is the role of art in society?; What is the role of the museum, and how does it affect taste?; Are there any aspects of art that are universal?; How does contemporary art and judgement differ from those of the past?; Is beauty a necessary ingredient in a work of art?; What makes a work of art 'good'?; How has technology changed art?; Does art reflect society or does society reflect art?; What is the role of the critic?; What are, if any, the moral dimensions of art making? Additionally, we will consider various artists, and offer observations and critiques. Theoretical aspects may include the following: structuralism, deconstructionism, semiotics, post-modernism, post-structuralism, phenomenology, art theories past and present, Marxism, globalism, etc.
