California secession from the union: With the new supreme court line up, abortion laws threatened to be overturned, the looming threat of a national draft to support the war in Iraq, and the right wing religious agenda taking over Washington, is Canada looking more and more attractive lately? Of course there is another, rather appealing option - California (or rather west coast) secession from the Union.
This group was founded to conduct an open discussion on the subject of possible west coast secession from the union. Please post your thoughts for and against, pose questions and comments, present new ideas of discus old ones. All political discussion welcome.
A friend first presented the idea of California secession to me a few months ago. At first I thought it sounded completely crazy, but the more I thought about it, the more I learned the facts and discussed the notion, the more sense it seems to make. I am interested in learning how many other people feel the same, and if not - why not?
The revolution is near!!! Who's with me?!
Let the red states keep their public school Bible studies! It's gonna be us, and Oregon. Oh, and maybe Vegas. With an open trade agreement with Mexico. It will be called Pacifica, or something like that. Equal rights for the gay community, legal medical marijuana, women's right to choose and stem-cell research. Complete separation of church and state. We are already one of the largest economies in the world - are you tired of having all our federal tax money go to support the states that are trying to get creationism taught in science class?? Tired of the corrupt bi-partisan system that controls Washington DC? Join us!
Viva La Revolution!
A little about California today:
Fifth largest economy of any country in the world.
13% of the entire U.S. Gross National Product.
1.4 trillion dollar Gross State Product.
35.5 million people, over 12% of the U.S. population.
41.5% of Californians are considered to be minorities under the U.S. system compared to 24.9% for the rest of America. Our cultures don't match!
26.5% of Californians were born in a foreign country.
Best place to live in the U.S! (Harris Poll)
The 9 county Bay Area region alone has a population greater than 43 states! (Only Illinois, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas have more people.)
Why continue to let the failed union hold us back? Why continue to let the morals of a country whose populace believes in vastly different things govern us? Why continue to be under-represented in the making of national laws?
What the human mind can conceive and believe, the human mind can achieve.
