2004: Sydney FC is born, one of eight new teams competing in Australia's new A-League. Sydney’s principal sponsor is Health-e

2004: Sydney FC attracts striker Dwight Yorke and coach Pierre Littbarski to its team, as well as investors such as actor Anthony LaPaglia and businessman Frank Lowy, giving it a reputation as a “glamour club”.

2004/08/28: The opening game between SydneyFC v. Melbourne Victory draws a record crowd for a soccer game in Australia (25 000+). This is the first appearance by The Cove.

2005: Kazu (Kazuyoshi Miura) scores 2 goals for Sydney FC during his two month loan from Yokohama FC.

2005: Sydney FC competes in the 2005 FIFA Club World Championships, finishing 5th after a loss to Deportiva Saprissa 1-0.

2005/03/05: Sydney FC wins the first Hyundai A-League, beating the Central Coast Mariners 1-0 in front of a packed Aussie Stadium with a crowd of 41 000+.

2006: Terry Butcher replaces Pierre Littbarski as coach.

2006: Benito Carbone is put on a four match loan to Sydney FC, where he scored 2 goals in 3 games and could not play the fourth due to injury.

2006: Sydney FC is announced as one of two teams alongside Adelaide United to represent Australia in the 2007 AFC Champions League.

2007: Sydney FC narrowly lose (aggregate 3:2) to Newcastle Jets in the Semifinals of the 2006-2007 A-League.

2007: Branko Culina is named as Sydney FC's new coach, after a winning debut in the 2007 AFC Champion's League against Shanghai Shenhua 2-1.
