This is a forum of discussion for those working in, or hoping to one day work in the film industry as animal wranglers, trainers, or animal actors. It is also for people who agree that the addage regarding the terrors of working with aninimals is COMPLETELY FALSE because ANIMALS MAKE THE BEST ACTORS! You can keep them in a cage between shots, make them literally work for their lunch, and you will never, ever hear them bitching about their evian being only slightly chilled. Human actors could, in essence, be completey repalced by animals. For instance, I could get you a parrot that sounds exactly like Ben Affleck. Add a few explosions and a supermodel and nobody would ever know the difference.
Strangely enough, though, deep within the anals of television and film history lie countless occourneces of 'animal replacement' that have already come to pass, as in the instance of the re-casting of the title role in the television series "Mr.Ed." Shortly into the shooting of the pilot, Dick Van Dyke, originally cast in the part, was found to have suffered an episode in his dressing room involving muscle relaxants, a fifth of old crow, and an elderly pollack prostitute. The palamino we all cherish as Mr. Ed was then brought to stand in on a moment's notice, and wowed the production staff with his directability and his propencity to defecate far less on the set than the role's previous occupier, Dick Van Dyke.
Similarly, in Gorge Lucas' "The Return of the Jedi" The role of Jaba the Hut remained uncast up until just weeks before the scheduled shoot, due to a simailar circumstance regarding defecation on the set and the mass quantities of snacks devoured at the craft services table by Marlon Brando, the original casting chioce. Subsequently , the part was recast, and Sally Struthers was asked to assume the role, but to preserve the film's PG rating it was decided to replace her with a giant, disgusting slug.
So hooray for animalian actors, for their work ethic and honesty will make replacing human actors all too easy, and fie upon all those who view them only as tools for demographic shifting, because that's what the human actors are for.
