New 'Venus Doom' Release Date Revealed!
Finnish goth metallers H.I.M have reportedly set
September 4 as the new release date for their follow-up to 2005's "Dark Light", entitled "
Venus Doom".
The band's sixth studio CD was recorded at the Finnvox facility in Helsinki with producer Tim Palmer and was mixed in California.
H.I.M frontman Ville Valo recently told MTV.com that "Venus Doom" is "going to be a lot heavier than anything we've done before — that's the whole idea. It's like we're mixing MY BLOODY VALENTINE's 'Loveless' with METALLICA's 'Master of Puppets'. ... There won't be as much ear candy on this one. There are a lot of riffs, and it's more guitar-oriented than keyboard-driven. Really, we just wanted to rock our own socks off.
"We wanted to make a really rockin' album — one that would explode your speakers," he added. "But we also wanted to maintain the melancholy aspects of love and loss in the lyrics and then have the really sweet vocals amidst this storm of guitars.
"Lyrically, it's about me losing a relationship and then actually regaining it, and losing my sanity and regaining it," Valo continued. "As you grow up, life gets more and more complex, even though when you're a kid you think things are going to get easier. It's like a f---ing puzzle that just keeps on having more and more pieces to it. It's very personal, this album. It's like me getting rid of my demons and putting the pain in the music. It's cathartic, and it's about cleansing yourself and trying to have the courage to take that one step further."
Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Dead Lovers Lane", "The Kiss of Dawn", "Love in Cold Blood" and "Passion's Killing Floor".

Oct 06 Update [HIM]
Uneasy Listening Vol. 1
HIM will release a cool compilation album on
October 30. It will include rarities & hard-to-find versions of the band's biggest hits.
It will have 15 tracks that have been hand-picked & chosen by Ville Valo himself. This will be the first release of a two-part concept that will feature the band's acoustic side as well as the harder, love-metal-y side.
Uneasy Listening Vol. 1 is a show-case of the band's more sentimental side.
Also there are 5 previously unreleased versions of tracks including their most famous live crowd pleaser 'Join Me'.

As Ville would say: "Superb, sweethearts...!"
Sept 06 Update [HIM]
North American Tour Cancelled
Finnish ’dark’ rockers H.I.M. have cancelled the previously announced fall tour in favor of entering the recording studio to begin work on a new album. The band has been steadily writing material for their forthcoming album and is eager to start preliminary rehearsals for the new CD.
Singer Ville Valo explained the band’s decision:
"Our dearest fellowship of the Heartagram, you haven’t seen the last of us yet. We just want to keep it fresh for you and stump you with new material. I didn’t feel that I could do that without rehearsing some of this stuff that’s stuck in my heart. We’re happy to have new fans come aboard the ship, but I feel we’ve got to keep it exciting and new.
We’ve started writing and I can’t wait for you guys to hear what we’re working on."

June 06 Update
After two-and-a-half weeks of touring and two summer festival shows, Finnish rockers will record demos for their upcoming album in September, H.I.M. frontman Ville Valo told the free Texas weekly publication What's Up for its May 31-June 6 issue.
After that, they'll show the new songs to their label and to Tim Palmer (David Bowie, Ozzy Osbourne), who produced "Dark Light", their latest CD.
If all goes well, Valo says, they could be in the studio by January and putting out a new album their sixth by September 2007.
"I've got a lot of one-liners in lyrics and musical ideas for maybe 12 songs," Valo told What's Up.
"But from those 12 maybe six will end up on the album. What we're doing with the band now is trying to figure out the sound and direction with the next one. We don't want to do the same old, same old again. It's probably going to be a bit more aggressive, a bit punkier, faster so to speak."
