In case you missed it, this week was "Philly Loves Rocky Week!" Sylvester Stallone was the guest of honor, the Rocky statue went home, and there were a ton of events honoring Sly and Rocky.

Written, directed and starring Sylvester Stallone, Rocky Balboa is the next story in the saga of Philadelphia boxer Rocky Balboa, one of Hollywood's most beloved characters. In the film, Rocky has long since retired but is drawn back to the boxing ring one last time. On the way he is challenged by a powerful new champion, by personal tragedy and ultimately by himself.

Variety reports that Rocky Balboa will be distributed in the United States by MGM and its official release date is December 22, 2006. MGM is set to announce further details at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. "We are extremely excited about what Sylvester Stallone has brought to this latest chapter in the life of one of America's most beloved screen characters," a spokesman for Revolution Studios said in a statement, adding, "and it seems only right that Rocky is back at the studio where it all began."

A new review from the May 15 sneak screening of Rocky Balboa reveals many of the film's highlights but also provides a strong hope that the movie will come out a winner upon its release at the end of the year.
Finally, Stallone swears up and down that this is the very last movie for the character. No, seriously. It is.
