Welcome to the 2000's, the first decade of the new millenium. Can you hear me now? Good! This is the decade of "W" Bush, American Idol, and reality shows. The events of the decade include 9/11/01, the War in Iraq, and the late 00's recession. In the 2000's, you saw many technological achievements, like the evelution of the cell phone, faster internet, new generations of video game systems, the iPod, Tivo, and satellite radio. The celebraty faces of the 2000's include Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Lindsay Lohan, Hilary Duff, Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Kim Kardashian, Megan Fox, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, and many others.
The 2000's brought us a variety of music such as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Nelly, Destiny's Child, Ludacris, Petey Pablo, Bubba Sparxx, Lincoln Park, Pink, Shakira, Avril Lavigne, 50 Cent, Cold Play, Lil' Jon, Nickelback, Black Eyed Peas, Kanye West, Jojo, Ashlee Simpson, Skye Sweetnam, Gwen Stefani, Pussycat Dolls, Kelly Clarkson, Fall Out Boy, the Gorillaz, James Blunt, Daniel Powter, Natasha Bedingfield, Kevin Federline, Nelly Furtado, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga. New variations of rap such as crunk and snap, and a new style of rock known as emo became big in the 2000's.
The box office brought us hits such as the X-Men, Spiderman, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Carribean, Chronicles of Narnia, Fast and the Furious, Shrek, Ice Age, and Scary Movie series, and other blockbuster hits such as Batman Begins, Superman Returns, 300, Transformers, Iron Man, Star Trek, along with Oscar Winners including the Gladiator, A Beautiful Mind, Million Dollar Baby, Ray, Crash, The Departed, No Country For Old Men, Slumdog Millionaire, as well as controversial films such as Passion of the Christ and Brokeback Mountain. Notable pop-cultural classics include Napoleon Dynamite and Borat, plus movies starring Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Will Ferrell, Jack Black, Ryan Reynolds, Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Banks.
On TV, reality shows were popular such as Survivor, Fear Factor, the Bachelor, the Apprentice, Dancing With the Stars, etc.; as well as crime/drama shows such as CSI, Law & Order, 24, Bones, and Prison Break. New sitcoms premiered, such as Malcolm in the Middle, Grounded For Life, The Bernie Mac Show, Two and a Half Men, The War at Home, Everybody Hates Chris, How I Met Your Mother. Chappelle's Show and Mind of Mencia have been making you laugh, and so did the Tom Green Show and Jackass. The 2000's also gave us cartoons such as Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Drawn Together, Family Guy, and American Dad. Otherwise, you were watching the Gilmore Girls, Smallville, the OC, Desperate Housewives, Lost, Gray's Anatomy, Heroes, Journeyman, or Bionic Woman.
So put on a pair of uggs or crocs, grab your cell phone and download your favorite ringtones, vote for the next American Idol or Americas Next Top Model, set your Tivo to record your favorite reality shows, and get on your hi-speed internet because the 2000's is off the chain, for shizzel!
