It’s hard to believe, but it was his first grasp at the new acoustic mahogany-colored Johnson guitar neck that changed everything for Lucas Joseph (Ballasy), an aspiring musician at the ripe old age of 12. He already had the feel of the instrument in his head, having played his mom’s old guitar here and there, but this one was different. His new guitar, purchased at the same shop his mother had bought hers 30 years before, seemed to instantly transform him. That’s when life began to come into focus for him, as he adopted a keen vision of his purpose, a vision where he would be the one affecting people.
Soon after, he began creating an interesting palette of melodies and lyrics reflective of his personal artistry. He could visualize himself on stage, guitar in hand, crooning into the microphone his own brand of music, entertaining whoever wanted to listen. After some time spent moving in different directions musically, he finally found his voice, a style that “felt right” – and embarked on a journey of self-expression, aiming to write his own songs. During this period of time, Lucas was slowly developing his style, starting off with his version of the Oasis ballad, “Wonderwall,” which came after he finished his inaugural original song “The Feeling,” back in 2003. Since then, Lucas has gone on to write and produce a 7-track CD of original songs, and continues to write fresh material and enhance previous works.
Lucas Joseph has already appeared at several local venues, and can be found performing almost weekly; from coffee shops to the next-door neighbor’s living room to hotel lobbies and the World Café. At such a young age, Lucas Joseph is working diligently to assemble a fan base, and already has enamored and enthusiastic followers in many different states, as well other countries. As he grows in popularity, Lucas’ music is gradually stretching from coast to coast, and across the world, bringing a new sound resembling that of the Beatles and Buddy Holly to an appreciative music community. Fans of his music find it easy to relate to his contemporary lyrics set to a backdrop of catchy tunes reminiscent of the past. Lucas’ brand of music speaks of influences such as Bob Dylan folk and Beatles rock. This modern day singer/songwriter appeals to an audience of all ages with his distinctive sound marked by smooth guitar and vocals. We cannot wait to see what this coy rock ‘n roll balladeer will bring to us next. But we know it’s going to be sweet.
