This forum is for the discussion of philosophy, metaphysics of existentialism, nature and law. The purpose of this group is to help people understand what reality really is. With an absolute foundation for working out the Truth we can then solve many of the problems of Law, Philosophy, and Theology.

Glossary

(not in alphabetical order)
-Absurdism: a philosophy stating basically that the efforts of humans to find meaning in the universe will ultimately fail because no such meaning exists (at least in relation to people).

-Existentialism: is a philosophical movement that views human existence as having a set of underlying themes and characteristics, such as anxiety, dread, freedom, awareness of death, and consciousness of existing. Existentialism is also an outlook, or a perspective, on life that pursues the question of the meaning of life or the meaning of existence.

-Nihilism:As a philosophical position, nihilism is the view that the world, and especially human existence, is without meaning, purpose, comprehensible truth, or essential value.

-paradigm: An exemplary model or a set of background assumptions. A paradigm sets the stage and the rules of the game. According to Kuhn, procedural paradigms control our study of the natural world during periods between scientific revolutions.

-paradox: An absurd truth. Resolution of a paradox requires that we abandon at least one of the premises, refute the process of inference, or somehow learn to live with the unpalatable result.

-Conumdrum:A riddle in which a fanciful question is answered by a pun. A paradoxical, insoluble, or difficult problem; a dilemma. The Answer is problem where the answer is very complex, possibly unsolvable without deep investigation.

*** Literary Terms ***

-Rhetorical Question: is a figure of speech in the form of a question posed to persuade rather than for the purpose of getting an answer.

-Metafiction is a type of fiction which self-consciously addresses the devices of fiction. It is the term given to fictional writing which self-consciously and systematically draws attention to its status as an artifact in order to pose questions about the relationship between fiction and reality. It usually involves irony and is self-reflective. It can be compared to presentational theatre in a sense; presentational theatre does not let the audience forget they are viewing a play, and metafiction does not let the readers forget they are reading a work of fiction. (the neverending story, atonement)

..............................................Deductive and Inductive.............................................

Deductive Inferences:
When an argument claims that the truth of its premises guarantees the truth of its conclusion. Deductive reasoning holds to a very high standard of correctness

-Inductive Inferences:
When an argument claims merely that the truth of its premises make it likely or probable that its conclusion is also true. The standard of correctness for inductive reasoning is much more flexible than that for deduction.
