Group Leader:

Back Alley Bikes is a volunteer-run, non-profit bicycle shop in Detroit that teaches bicycle repair to anyone with an ailing bicycle.

--We want to encourage bicycle use as a fun, economical, ecological, and healthy alternative to living life cooped up in cars.

--We think that everyone should have access to the tools and knowledge necessary to be self-sufficient.

--We think good bicycles should be rebuilt and repaired instead of thrown away.

--We know that riding a bicycle is a lot more fun than reading or writing stuff on the internet.

Since we are an all-volunteer run bike shop our hours are the direct result of the number of regular volunteers we have.

Our current hours are:

Mondays 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Bike Repair Class. We have begun a rotating series of bike repair classes. Folks who want to learn how to repair bikes are welcome to come to the class. Folks that want to earn a bike must come to the full four hour session. The class is in session from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Those who want to earn a bike will put their newfound skills to use from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Tuesdays 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. Open Shop. This is the night that we repair bikes for free.
This is the night that we need the most volunteer help because we can get very busy.
