TINNITUS: WHAT IS IT?
TINNITUS ti-NIGHT-us or TIN-i-tus: the perception of sound in the ears or head where no external source is present. Both pronunciations are correct; the American Tinnitus Association uses ti-NIGHT-us.
The word comes from Latin and means "to tinkle or to ring like a bell."
The way it should actually be described is: "A nightmare!"
In almost all cases, tinnitus is a subjective noise, meaning that only the person who has tinnitus can hear it. Someone with tinnitus often describes it as "ringing in the ears," but people report hearing all kinds of sounds: crickets, whooshing, pulsing, ocean waves, buzzing, even music.
SOME people will experience it temporarily or intermittently.
For MOST, it will never go away!

ABOUT THIS SITE AND ITS CREATOR
TINNITUS.a nightmare that can happen to you, at anytime.
In 2005 I attended a very cool concert by Motley Crue," The Carnival of sins" tour. It was so loud that it left me with ringing in the ears, PERMANENT ringing..., you can't silence it, it does not stop.
I am a musician and filmmaker, music is my life and I do not hate music or decided to go on a crusade against the music business.
In fact, I still listen to music and love it even more.
But folks, this needs to be known, it has become an epidemic and YOU can help us spread the word!.
Most of today's rock acts (The darkness, Tool, Pearl jam, the Killers, Metallica, U2, Audioslave, Nickelback, etc, plus established acts like Phil Collins, The Who, Cindy Lauper, Pat Benatar, Ozzy, Marylin Manson, Rolling Stones, Fleetwood mac, etc), have members that have this or all the members have it.
In the music biz people dont ask does any musician have this?, usually the question iswho doesnt have this?.
Problem is, most of them in the music biz nothing because it is perceived as "un-cool". So they go on giving Tinnitus to others, for them its easy (having 20 million in your bank account helps), for most of us, it is not.
Over 50 million americans have it, ages between 20 and 60. And about 100 mill outside the US.
Please wear ear plugs when you are experiencing a loud concert!!!!, it will not block the sound, it will only eliminate high end, badly mixed, distorted sounds, it will actually make the concert sound better!
Please, be carefull with those I-pods, if your buddy next to you can hear them, then you ARE damaging your ears and then it is just a matter of time before you get Tinnitus.
if you are out in your car playing some bad rap music, some bad Raggaeton, or rock in general and the speakers are distorting (as instead of going Boom...they go brrrpsrrroom (or something like that, you get it), you WILL get Tinnitus within a few months or years. Sometimes a ONE TIME exposure will do the trick
Believe me, about 20 kids in the Motley Crue concert got this, all of them under 25 years of age.
Basically, we all have this, just lock yourself in a quiet closet and also cover your ears, you will most probably hear a little faint "something", we as a society today will never experience total silence.
For me, it sucks, but have "habituated" to it, just be careful.
If you do have this, please contact the www.ata.org, or Hearnet.com (hearing for rockers).
SAVE YOUR EARS DUDES, SAVE YOUR EARS, YOU ONLY GET ONE PAIR. DON'T LAUGH AND THINK IT WON'T HAPPEN TO YOU, IT CAN HAPPEN AT ANYTIME, TO ANYONE!
