Artists are, by nature, pack rats. The innate tendency to collect has, in the last century, propelled the distinctly modern found-object art, which uses objects from daily life in unusual ways. Alongside this is the growing awareness of the world's need to divert waste, which is quickly filling up the spaces allocated to it. The intervention of these two trends has bred a unique type of artist; one whos goal in art is to reuse, recycle, and bring public awareness to trash.
I am starting an arts materials exchange that is designed to meet the specific needs of an art student.
My program, SPORE, which stands for Students of Philadelphias Object Reuse Effort, focuses on the trading of non-traditional art materials and found objects for creative reuse.
I am calling for all young scavenger artists, sidewalk scourers and dumpster divers, collectors of all things. Bring me your trash. Bring SPORE your trash. Trade it. Use it. Make art with it.
With this group, you can post what it is you are looking to use, what you have available for trade, and anything else that seems related!
*PS* SPORE is looking for a physical location! If you or someone you know would like to sponsor SPORE or loan us a space, please let me know. SPORE is not for profit, as no actual money is exchanged. If you or YOUR SCHOOL might like to donate space for the exchange, I would be forever grateful.
ENJOY! and MAKE ART!
