After organizing the first U.S. Johnnie To and Tsui Hark retrospectives, the two programs of Asian martial arts cinema, and helping establish the New York Korean Film Festival (2001), Subway Cinema launched the annual New York Asian Film Festival in 2002.

Now in its fifth year, the New York Asian Film Festival has become America's leading festival of popular Asian cinema, receiving attention from the New York Times, TIME, New York magazine, the Village Voice, US News & World Report, the New Yorker, the Economist, Giant Robot, Cine 21, National Public Radio, BBC News, Fuji TV, and others.

In addition, Subway Cinema's members contribute to various film and culture/entertainment publications, including Time Out New York, Film Comment, the Village Voice, SOMA, KoreAm Journal, and Cine21.

Subway Cinema's Grady Hendrix writes Variety's Asian cinema blog, Kaiju Shakedown, while Goran Topalovic is the New York correspondent for the film trade magazine Asia Movie Week.

Paul Kazee has served as a curator and programming consultant to several other North American film festivals, inscluding the San Francisco Asian Film Festival.
