THE BAND...
*Freddie Mercury (1946-1991) (born Farrokh Bulsara) vocals, piano, synthesizer and sometimes guitar - Among the general public, Mercury is perhaps best known as the lead vocalist and frontman of the group, with such roles placing a shadow over his skill as a pianist and songwriter. He wrote the majority of the songs found on Queen's Greatest Hits. As a singer, he had a distinctive voice and an impressive range.

*Brian May CBE (born 1947) guitar, piano, synthesizer and vocals- May was the lead guitarist of the group. While often providing harmonizing and backing vocals, he occasionally played piano. In the 70s, he also sang lead on one or two songs of each album such as "'39" and "Good Company". Along with Roger Taylor, May was a member of Smile, the band that eventually grew into Queen. As a boy, Brian May built the Red Special, a guitar he continues to use to this day.

*Roger Taylor (born 1949) drums, percussion, synthesizer and vocals- Taylor was the percussionist of Queen. Like May, he provided backing vocals; in the 70s, he sang lead on one or two songs each album. In addition to the drums, Taylor would often play rhythm guitar on his own songs.

*John Deacon (born 1951) bass, rhythm guitar and synthesizer- Deacon was the bass player with the group and is the only member never to sing vocals on a Queen album. He was also the last member to join the band, being recruited in 1971. He wrote the fewest number of songs of any individual member, and has not participated in the Queen + Paul Rodgers tour since his retirement.
LATEST NEWS...
*A holding page for the new Freddie Mercury site www.loveroflifesingerofsongs.com is now live. The site is being produced to coincide with the 60th Birthday of Queen's front man and series of new releases in September of this year.
More information very soon.
*Queen's Greatest Hits album has just been confirmed as 8xPLATINUM in the USA. This is a staggering 8 million copies on one album, in just one country!
It is currently at No.7 in Top Pop Catalogue Chart in the US.
*Steve Jobs and the folks over at Apple would be well-served, and Bono "just might approve" of a special series of limited edition Queen/Freddie Mercury iPods just in time to rock this September.
The sudden rush of hoopla in anticipation of Freddie's 60th was hardly off the radar of a 29 year fan. With the sizeable archives of both audio and video, studio and live, I'd be willing to wager there'd be a rush at The Apple Store not seen since the introduction of the Photo iPod!
Have a look at these sites for the original postings of the prototype.
