Members of Kelseys Purpose have come together from locations throughout Oklahoma, across the United States of America and from countries around the world. We are currently over 900 members strong. Kelsey Briggs has become the poster child for child abuse, uniting us to stand once and for all to protect the children who are suffering through child abuse and neglect. We have supported and rallied behind the creation of The Kelsey Briggs Child Protection Act.
We are mothers, daughters, fathers, sons, family and friends who have united as one to stand against child abuse. We stand united behind the Briggs family, calling on our officials for justice and reform within the child protection agencies. We rally behind those families who come to us for support in their own fights for justice concerning children who are abused and neglected.
Our mission is to celebrate Kelseys life, unite against child abuse and stand up for children who suffer abuse and neglect so this never happens again.

At only 2-and-a-half-years-old, from Meeker Oklahoma Kelsey Briggs' tiny body had already endured more injuries than most people see in a lifetime. She had broken bones and bruises from head to toe. The DHS report states that Kelsey had a broken collarbone and faded bruises on her thighs and bottom. A doctor said those bruises were the result of abuse, likely from a beating with an object such as a hair brush. Kelsey's mom said she didn't know how the bruises got there. At that time, DHS told a judge that Kelsey needed to be removed from the home and she was. In February the DA went to court to establish Kelsey as a deprived and abused child. The DA said Kelsey's mother and stepfather either perpetrated the abuse or failed to protect Kelsey. Two months later, the judge, acting on a DHS recommendation, allowed Kelseys mom unsupervised visits. Given the history some people wonder why DHS thought that was a good idea. Within a month, Kelsey was back in a DHS office. She now has more bruises and what's described as a sprained ankle. DHS staff noticed that Kelsey whimpered and would not walk or crawl. They tell her mom to take the little girl to the emergency room right away. Doctors eventually find broken bones and say the injuries are the result of abuse. DHS remove Kelsey from her grandparents home and continue to investigate. However, a month later, in June, the court allows Kelseys mom to have physical custody of the little girl. By the end of august DHS workers had noticed Kelsey was refusing to eat, had lost weight and was having night terrors On October 11th at 1:30 p.m., a state worker visited Kelsey for the last time. That worker said everything looked fine, but two hours later, Kelsey was dead. April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. On October 11, 2005 despite nine months of documented abuse, Kelsey Briggs died, becoming one of 51 Oklahoma children who fell through the cracks of the very system put in place to protect them. Kelsey's story has touched the lives of people not only in Oklahoma, but the rest of the country and around the world. During the past six months, a number of events have been named in the interest of Kelsey. As stated on the website created in her memory, Kelseys PurposeShe was put here to make a difference - to make sure other children are protected. As National Child Abuse Prevention Month comes to a close, we feel it is appropriate to honor this precious childs memory and the reform that has begun following her tragic passing. The people she left behind and the people she never met have united to stand against child abuseto make sure other children, all children, are protected.

HOW?
Groups are forming in various towns throughout Oklahoma to promote Child Abuse Awareness in honor of Kelsey on Saturday, April 29th. Our dream is to see a statewide presence united against child abuse. Our mission is to help protect ALL children, so this NEVER happens to another child. And the Govenor of Oklahoma declared April 29, 2006 "Kelsey Briggs Day"

We just want to have Kelsey's story spread nation wide and it's hard when you stay in one state Don't feel like you have to do this I'm just asking. Also let people know about the website and that membership is free. So far right now we have 1,200+++ members. Basicaly was just want to let people know about this case and try to stop Child Abuse from happening. Thanks again and God Bless
