Derived from the dark, chaotic, comedic, and the fashionable; the curious work compiled in this book goes to great lengths to demonstrate the spirit of play. The selected artists give credit to the idea of play as work and confidently substantiate the concept.

These artists were specifically chosen because it had become apparent that, regardless of personal style, we share an enthusiasm and mutual support for each others work. We exist independently, but work as a collective in Baltimore, drawing from the same pool of ideas and enriching the local zeitgeist. Some of the artists approach the theme with a painterly style, while others utilize a more graphic vision. Through specific drawings, the viewer becomes aware of how the works influence and inform each other.
Several of the drawings are collaborations of the artists as fellow contemporaries and friends. As a collective, weve formed a family based on the intuitive desire to create charming and dynamic worlds while maintaining distinctive realities.
In the process, weve continuously guided each other in complimentary directions.

The artists featured in this publication originate from places such as Miami, Philadelphia, Canada, Korea, Taiwan and Saudi Arabia. Each of these
artists creates work that reaches beyond our local community and appeals to a broader audience. That is the concept of La La Land: a convergence of artists each with a unique perspective sharing concepts, imitating each other, and establishing a diverse community rich with the excitement of collaborative creation.
