Metabeam Brings Social Media to the Living Room
Company previews new Metamenu Social Media Modules that promise to deliver consumers rich, interactive home media experiences

Filmmaker and technology advocate, Brian Metcalf, will integrate the Metamenu modules in the production of his new independent film The Dreamless and music video "Money Shot" by Helmet. “Fannotate lets film fans blend the imagery that I created with their own, then score it with great music to create their own highly personalized visions,” said Metcalf. “Chatterflix is unique because it gives me a way to securely hold live screenings with Q&A commentary, then use that chat as bonus material for the DVD. I’m certain the audience will be well served by my collaboration with Metabeam.”

Metabeam Develops Social Media for Home Entertainment

6/19/07 – Metabeam, an interesting startup based in Manhattan Beach which develops home entertainment technologies for movie studios, digital content creators and digital artists, has debuted a set of tools that enable DVD producers to create social media applications as bonus features within their movies.

Designed to work with the company’s Metamenu system—its flagship production method and consumer interface—the new modules allow the interactivity to be built into home media like HD-DVD, Blu-ray Disc or standard definition DVD-ROM, according to Metabeam.
.....The company also announced that filmmaker Brian Metcalf will integrate the Metamenu modules in the production of his new independent film “The Dreamless” and music video “Money Shot” by the band Helmet.

Directed by Brian Metcalf, THE DREAMLESS focuses on Marcus, played by 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS and WITCHBLADE’s Eric Etebari, who is a self-absorbed business man and has just recently started a new job. He spends little time with his family and too much time focusing on making money. While invited to a party, Marcus is slipped an amulet by Jeff (played by BAYWATCH’s David Chokachi) who has discovered his boss’s intentions of using it for world domination. It is revealed that his boss (also Marcus’s boss), Andrejus, is a true spellcaster (played by ex-WITCHBLADE actor Anthony Cistaro) who has lived throughout the years. When Andrejus discovers this, he sends a group of unique and frightening mercenaries to retrieve the amulet at any cost, including murdering his family.

Soon after, Marcus awakens to find himself in the company of Eadan (played masterfully by RESEVOIR DOGS’ Kirk Baltz) who has saved his life ( while his family has perished). As it turns out, Eadan is also a spellcaster with a long history with Andrejus. Eadan agrees to train Marcus in the mystical arts so he can be on equal turf with the villainous characters.
