Thanks to everyone who has already joined!

Portland Zombie Walk 2009 will take place October 24th. Time and Location will be posted soon. as will the route. We only have 10 days to go! This year zombies are being asked to make a donation to the Oregon Food Bank. Do not bring cans, we don't have the means to transport them back to the Food Bank and OFB is low on personelle this time of year and cannot do the transporting themselves. Instead we have set up a FirstGiving site, a site that allows you to make quick and secure donations directly to the Oregon Food Bank in the name of Portland Zombie Walk.

As you know, last year we made an attempt to make our glorious day a little special for the undead(literally) as well. The Portland Zombie Walk 2009 continues to support the Oregon Food Bank and all their efforts. By raising hunger awareness through our march and by making small donations we can continue to keep our food supply well nourished and so much tastier. So give a little. So if you are planning on walking with us this year, please make a $5 donation to the Oregon Food Bank.
Portland Zombie Walk's "FirstGiving site"
show em' that We may eat brains, but we still have hearts.

You can use the link above to access the FirstGiving site, any donation amount will be appreciated. This is the busiest time of year for OFB and they have seen drastic increase in requests for emergency food boxes. The site is simple and secure to use and you can make a donation in any amount you would like. I recommend a $5 per person minimum, but if you only have $2 for food for those in need this winter, then please give the $2. Please pass this link on to friends and family. It doesn't matter if they go to the walk or not, it's for our communities. Everyone deserves their piece of the brain-pie!

Please forward this to friends and family in Oregon and encourage those who don't live in Oregon to donate to their local food bank.

With all my undying love,
Blanca

Also, don't forget that Thrill The World PDX is also on the 24th! So you can have a whole Zombie fun-filled weekend. ! You can learn the dance online at www.thrilltheworld.com or sign up for one of the practices! It only takes one to learn the dance.

I have gotten several messages from people offering to do make-up and others who need help. Please check out the myspace group where there is a forum to post all these messages. Have a make-up party at your house and do some pre-walk prepping.

For costume ideas you can:

be yourself zombie

politicians

famous people in general

state and city employees (librarian, construction worker, etc.)

Check out the Red Light and all the GoodWill locations!

I really do encourage costumes with a socio-political message!

The route will be posted next week. The middle of the week probably.

BRRRAAAAINS!

Thousands of Zombies Dance to 'Thriller' in Worldwide Event;
Portland Hosts 3rd Annual SMYRC Benefit

PORTLAND, Ore. — Oct. 24, 2009 — It's a 6-minute dance, full of moves like the "march booty swim," "shuffle ha slide" and "hip n' roar." YouTube videos abound of people trying their hand at "Thriller" – wedding parties, Filipino prisoners and the cast of "13 going on 30" - but there's something so much cooler about a bunch of Portland hipsters, dancers and freaks covered in fake blood and dirt, all doing synchronized movements to Michael Jackson's classic song. Born out of a Canadian woman's dream to break the world record for the most amount of zombies to perform Michael Jackson's "Thriller" choreography at once, last year's Thrill the World worldwide event hosted 55 simultaneous events on 5 continents last year, boasting a total of 1,722 undead marching back and forth, arms up and roaring – at the same time. This year's worldwide goal, is 173,000 dancers (up quite a bit from last year's 1,700) – we'll see where Portland's zombies end up in the bigger picture.

A full list of free practices is available at www.myspace.com/ttwpdx (it's not too late, either. To sign-up, email ttwpdx@gmail.com.

Those who want to just come and watch a bunch zombies do a synchronized dance with thousands of others all over the world are more than welcome. The event is all ages, and all proceeds benefit Portland's Sexual Minority Youth Resource Center. Last year's event raised $600 for SMRYC, an outreach center for Portland's lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (LGBTQQ) youth. Through individual and family counseling, leadership development, outreach and public speaking, specialized skill building programs, and the recreation center, SMYRC helps young people succeed in their education, cultivates peer and community support, improves personal health, and fosters employment readiness.
Visit www.myspace.com/ttwpdx to for learning sessions or www.thrilltheworld.com for online training videos.
Why: To break a world record, and raise funds for SMRYC
