Increasing breast cancer awareness is important because a substantial number of breast cancer casualties are entirely preventable by early diagnosis -- when breast cancer is diagnosed early, 97 out 100 women survive 5 years or more.

In order to diminish the 40,000 yearly deaths in the United States due to breast cancer, our nation needs to hear of the importance early screenings that lead to early diagnoses, and this can only be accomplished by spreading the word to your friends and family members.

This group also intends to foster awareness of the problem at a political level. Over 265,000 new cases of breast cancer are diagnosed yearly in the United States, making the disease one of the largest killers of Americans in existence, even when compared to more incendiary topics like war, terrorism, bird flu, west nile, etc. Surprisingly, if you were to compare the federal funds dedicated to some of the aforementioned examples with those dedicated to breast cancer each year, the results can appear to be more than a little off balance. For this reason, we join the Pink Ribbon Petition in requesting that our president make curing breast cancer one of his administration's major priorities.
