Group Leader:

Welcome, everyone! My name is Crystal (well not really, but...) and I’m an eighteen-year-old aspiring groupie from near Chicago, IL. I’m looking for other girls like me who love rock music and the men who make it, and who would be interested in working with me on a project.

I could go on and on about how the music is magical to us, how it inspires us, transforms us, and blah blah blah. But we all know that already, because we feel it every second of our lives. So let’s be frank.

We want to go to bed with rock stars.

Here’s my proposal for taking the first step:

After learning of Miss Pamela's upcoming book Let's Spend the Night Together, I decided that I wanted to compile a book of autobiographical essays by young girls who wish they could have been groupies back in the glory days of rock and roll. It would never make a bestseller list or anything like that, but it would still be a way for us to make names for ourselves and hopefully gain some small-time recognition. If nothing else, maybe we could get one of the legendary groupies to review it, and we’d all feel star-struck for a while.

Basically, you could pretend that you’re older and you’re writing a memoir of your groupie days, a la I’m with the Band or Rebel Heart. This is your first chapter, where you describe your love of music, what your dreams are, why you want to be a groupie, and anything else along those lines. You’re just writing it now, rather than later.

Here are some submission guidelines:
--First of all, it’s important to note that this is for girls who admire rock star daters such as Miss Pamela and Bebe Buell, not Pamela Anderson and the like.

--Contributors should probably be pretty young, maybe between the ages of 16-30, but if you don’t fit that range, you can still submit anyway because I'm interested in all kinds of stories.

--I don’t know yet how long each of the essays should be. Probably a few pages, but honestly I have no idea, because I haven’t even written mine yet. I figure I’ll just see how many people are interested, and then we’ll all determine how much we want to write.

-- I’m no Hemingway myself, but your essay should definitely be fluid, intelligent, and organized. Please use correct grammar (unless you can use incorrect grammar creatively), and if you have any questions, feel free to ask me because I’m relatively good at that editing stuff. Also, no Internet slang, okay? LOL.

-- I’m looking for submissions from girls who love classic rock/metal, mostly from the ’60s through ’80s. If you have a crush on the singer from Simple Plan, this probably isn’t the right project for you.

--It's okay to vaguely allude to past experiences, but it would be in poor taste to make a list of your conquests.

And looking at the big picture:
-- As far as publishing goes, we could either pool together our money and self-publish, or I could beg my mom’s ex-publisher friend to do just one more book. It might work.

-- Not to be nitpicky, but I think that the photos in the book should probably be professional. Or at least really good. But we’ll worry more about that when the time comes.

--We’ll also worry about copyright stuff when the time comes, because the tentative title I thought up is Going to California, based on the Zeppelin song.

--I have no idea what the cover picture should be, so maybe we can all collaborate on that somehow, or have a contest.

Anyway, I’m not sure how many essays should be featured in the book, so for now, I just want to start collecting them. Let me know if you’re interested as soon as possible, that way I can begin planning.

And please, please don’t be shy! If you’re anything like me, you might get nervous meeting new people and sharing your dreams. I was so hesitant to join a MySpace group because I’m such a timid person, so I know how it is. But if you think you might want to contribute to this book, then join and send in your submission. We want to hear from you!

Thanks in advance, ladies. I think this book has the potential to be a really interesting read. The world needs to know that are still a few young people who love rock and roll. We can keep it alive!
