Welcome to The Community of Thinkers, Book Club.
We are a nonpartisan Think Tank, reading & book discussion group organized to promote individual and collective education on the critical issues of the day. Here we are a collection of readers who get together regularly to discuss featured books and articles. We are accordingly dedicated to encouraging critical thinking through the exercise of insightful analysis. The perspectives presented are intended, not to sway, but to inform, engage, and provoke creative and multi-dimensional thought. Therefore, our overall objective is to stir the inquiring mind and, in doing so, contribute soundly to the elusive but time-honored search for truth within the social and political realm. We are dedicated to recommending publications that stimulate deep, critical thinking that will empower readers to understand our society and government and make more informed, knowledgeable decisions.
How we chose our books
You're a busy person, and would prefer to spend your time reading great books and other publications, not tracking them down. This is especially important when it comes to choosing publications for review relating to decision 2008.
We believe in quality, not quantity, and only recommend publications that have received exceptionally good reviews, so you have the reassurance that whatever book we choose it's going to be a winner! Election 2008 edition
This book has a strong economic edge, in that it addresses historical and contemporary issues through a discussion of the major current events; however, it is also philosophical. Readers are encouraged and guided to analyze deeper perspectives, and come to conclusions through examination grounded in search for cause-and-effect. Although many of the concepts of this book are profound, the book, itself, is written in a simple, fluid, personalized, and overall engaging manner. Many of the ideas are analogically discussed through the Davidsons, a fictional family designed to represent the typical American family; Readers are able to walk through the footsteps of the Davidsons, from being on welfare to running a profitable business all while addressing many of our everyday economic issues. This book is a must read for American individuals and especially entrepreneurs.
Featured Author
Samuel Chambers is a native of Chicago and former resident of a Chicago public housing complex situated on South Side. Far from being socially advantaged, he grew up in the heart of the impoverished projects amidst a sea of drugs, violence, and despair. Despite his childhood environment, he blossomed into a paragon of social antithesis and success against the odds: As a student in high school on Chicago’s Southside, his grades reflected failure, but he showed abundant evidence of a brilliant mind. For example, his community had few businesses beyond drugs, yet he developed a keen understanding of commerce. Naturally inquisitive, he always had a penchant for asking questions and trying new ventures. Acting on his inquisitiveness rewarded him in many ways, ranging from the simple entrepreneurship of running a shopping bag carrier business, to the sophistication and complexity of spearheading financing programs for private and publicly traded corporations.
The fruits of his wide ranging, successful experiences are well developed abilities in corporate evaluations, marketing, asset management, personnel management and customer service, equity, futures, commodities and currency trading, securities sales, and investment banking. He began his career as an investment banker, structuring and restructuring firms under Security & Exchange Commission (SEC) and National Association of the Security’s Dealer (NASD) guidelines. He served in the capacity of the created firm’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Financial and Operation Principal and sales and compliance director. Distinguished achievements in the financial markets arena include the development of derivative trading pools, utilizing such strategies as reversals, conversions, synthetic bull and bear spreads, and other strategies to profit from short-swings in the derivative marketplace.
Today, Mr. Chambers operates a venture, publishing and marketing firm with offices in Chicago. According to Mr. Chambers, his greatest ambition for the firm is to utilize substantive, strategic change plus re-imaging and marketing to take high potential, unexposed companies and make them more appealing to a wider array of capital sources. His current and past positions, coupled with the experiences of his childhood, have provided him not only invaluable insight into the field of business and economics, but a passion for advancing humanity, society, and citizenship. It is this gained insight that he now wishes to share through authorship of his books: "Let’s See Democrats Republicans or the Issues", "Our Quest for Social Insecurity?" and "My vote, My Courage, My future…"
