Mahatma Gandhi once said:

"You Christians look after a document containing enough dynamite to blow all civilisation to pieces, turn the world upside down, and bring peace to a battle-torn planet. But you treat it as though it is nothing more than a piece of literature."

In the film Dead Poets Society, English students are taught by a maverick teacher, to reject the text book approach towards looking at poetry... and instead embrace the passion behind it.

In the same way, those of us who post on the Dead Prophets Society blog (http://deadprophetssociety.blogspot.com) and/or who are members of this group, do so because we wish to reject the idea that scripture is just stories and rules. We want to taste and see that the Lord is good... and go beyond the Gospels and Psalms, to look at the words of men and women of God in a less clynical way. We want to reconnect with the passion and deep spirituality found within the Bible's covers, immersing ourselves in the deepest of passions... knowing God and being loved by him.
