My name is Heather Derusha, this is a grassroots movement for a national campaign to encourage drivers to use their turn signals.
The program will be similar to the seat belt law which has been given much publicity. Either use your turn signal to announce a lane change or get a ticket.
This enforcement is much more significant than the seat belt law which does nothing to reduce crashes or road-runoffs on our streets.
To create awareness of the importance of people signaling their intent while driving a Lethal Weapon,
moving Right to Left and not allowing that split second extra reaction time for anyone near-by to react to,
that would stop a lot of road run offs and crashes.
I am professional driver with over 33 years experience and 3 million + miles.
I have seen a countless number of crashes and road run-offs from the repercussions of people not signaling their intent and more Deaths as a result, than I care to remember. The Crashes are not intended but most of the Lane changes are, People just look and go, Unfortunately there are too many drivers using this behavior at the same time.
After 20+ years of contacting city, state and national highway saftey representatives (NHTSA), as well as many Politicians and even the (ACLU) I have found nothing but Deaf Ears.
Please join me so we can make our Politicians Listen to our cause. Using Turn Signals is Already the Law in all 50 States. These Laws Need to be Enforced!

WAKE UP AMERICAN DRIVERS
Every State has a law that requires drivers to turn on their turn signal before changing lanes. If these laws are obeyed, the number of unintended lane change crashes and road run-offs would be greatly reduced.
The NHTSA and the insurance industry have reported that unintended lane change crashes have been the direct cause of 23,000 annual fatalities on U.S. roadways. When drivers signal before making a lane change they give others on the road an extra split second of reaction time to adjust their driving. An extra split second is all that is needed to avoid the swerve that very frequently causes crashes and road run-offs. A person's life can either be saved or lost in just a split second.

It's shameful more politicians have not stepped forward to address the 23,000 preventable deaths, caused by lack of awareness and enforcement of turn signals. For those politicians, who have came forward in support of stronger Turn Signal enforcement, I commend you! I guess Washington, really is out of touch with Average Americans!
