AVCA was founded in 1974 through the efforts of the Arkansas Office of Volunteer Services. AVCA provides members the opportunity to grow professionally, network and share resources in their local community and through a statewide network.

AVCA is a statewide organization with local chapters. Each chapter holds regular meetings, as well as other events. Current chapters are:
-Central (Little Rock area)
-Northwest Arkansas (Bentonville/Rogers/Springdale/Fayetteville area)
-River Valley (greater Ft. Smith area)
-West Central (greater Hot Springs area)
