A Whig is a member of the party that values independent thought and representative democracy. The Scottish Enlightenment spilled over to the British colonies and surfaced in the form of institutions of higher education, economic development and The Declaration of Independence. This party had it's hey-day while battling the unscrupulous policies of Andrew Jackson (We don't carry $20 bills for that reason). The party disbanded in the 1850's when the Conscience Whigs parted ways with Cotton Whigs (that favored slavery). President Lincoln was a Whig before evolving into a Republican. Whigs however fall far closer to the center of the spectrum than modern Republicans or Democrats because they are socially conservative, but educationally liberal. Currently the biggest party in the country is the party that does not affiliate with Reps or Dems. I feel the Whig Party will cater perfectly to the core of Americans that feel under-represented by the current parties. Welcome aboard the revival of the Whig Party.
