The MOBO's (Music of Black Origin), the UK's highest profile Black Music Awards, has NEVER had a SOUL award.

The UK's now longest serving black music magazine, Echoes and editor Chris Wells have launched a campaign to help the MOBO organisers come to a more informed decision.

Reacting to press reports in the Guardian and the Times, MOBO founder Kanya King said

"The campaign’s a nonsense. What is SOUL music but R&B and gospel? And we already have those categories.”

Soul music is an essential part of the British identity. In the last 2 years, 3 of our most successful exports have been Soul artists:

Amy Winehouse

Corinne Bailey Rae

Joss Stone.

British black music in general has always been represented, at its strongest in the Soul arena … Soul II Soul, Mica Paris, Omar, Incognito etc. All soul artists.

The organisers of the MOBO's aren't really sure who should be honoured, last year they awarded Sean Kingston in the reggae catergory! (the year before they nominated Anthony Hamilton)

Why isn’t there a Soul Award?

It's time to be heard

Soul artists that have lent their voices to Echoes campaign are;

Corinne Bailey Rae, Beverly Knight, Musiq, Jill Scott, Lemar & members of the group include Sly Stone, Eric Roberson & Anthony David .... yeaahh ... were gainin' on ya
