Group Leader:

We're a group of young people dedicated to organizing and empowering youth in the Charleston, WV area for environmental justice. We consider Mountain Top Removal to be not only a horrible injustice to the environment but, perhaps more importantly, an injustice to the citizens of Appalachia themselves.

To jump start our organizational efforts, we're having a gathering for any and all Charleston area youth (and those who consider themselves youthful) who might be interested in helping organize their own smaller communities for environmental justice causes.

The gathering will be held at the Unitarian Universalist church on Kanawha Blvd. on Tuesday, December 4th 2007 from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Included in the evening will be short movie, a speaker, an organizing workshop, a question and answer session, a light dinner, and some live music afterward! A packet including MTR (Mountain Top Removal) information and organizing and leadership tools will also be provided. The evening is completely free, no need to bring anything but an open mind! I suppose you could bring a few friends too.

This gathering is only the first in what we hope to be an ongoing collaboration between all young people interested in bettering the environment, beginning here in Charlestion and spreading outward to the entire state and Appalachian region. If you can't make it December 4th, look for more events coming up!

If you would like to spread the word about our upcoming gathering, leave us a message on here or email us, and we'll get you the flyers, postcards, and/or posters to do so.

We hope to see you soon!

For the Mountains,
the Leveling Appalachians
