To Whom It May Concern:
The purpose of this letter is to let you know of a close friend who is in need of a miracle. Dario Martinez, is a 31 year-old Cuban National, who arrived to this country in 2001 and has recently been diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, and is in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant. However, his health insurance plan has a lifetime gap of $250,000 which he has already exceeded by approximately $350,000 as a result of hospitalization and chemotherapy. He is in the bone marrow transplant recipient list, and there are currently six possible donors. However, such a transplant has an estimated cost of $350,000, which neither he nor his family/friends have.
Now why do we ask for your help in this matter? Well please let us tell you a little bit about him, his life, and his family and may be you will understand why we are making such a desperate plea. Dario, was born in the Island of Cuba, where he grew up and attended medical school. While almost finishing his medical career, he was expelled for political reasons. Since he arrived to this country he excelled and gained entry into medical school. Here is where we met Dario. As a person we can say that he is friendly, reliable, humble, and very caring. As a professional, we feel that he possesses all the qualities of a great physician. He is inexhaustible and has a great demeanor. In addition, Dario has a 10 month old baby boy and is expecting a baby girl in the next few months.
There is not much more that we can say. Our hearts have hit bottom. We are also, medical students and after all the knowledge that we have acquired, and all the tests that we have passed, we feel extremely helpless in this matter, because what he needs at this time is money. There is nothing that science can do for him at this time, unless money gives science the opportunity to do so.
Dario has been admitted to Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines; FL. since October 15th, 2007 under the care of Dr. Lyle Feinstein. To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Dario Martinez. I am a 31-year old husband and father of a 10 month old baby boy and I am expecting a baby girl in the next few months. I am a Cuban national having arrived in this country in 2001. I am now a legal resident.
I was in my fifth year of medical school in Havana, Cuba before I was expelled for political reasons. I found freedom and opportunity in this country and was able to obtain a medical internship in New Jersey. With my wife, a child, and a career in the profession I love before me, my life was more than I could hope for.
On October 15, 2007, I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. I am under the care of Dr. Lyle Feinstein, an oncologist at Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines; FL. Dr. Feinstein has informed me that the only treatment that provides me with any hope in survival is a type of bone marrow transplant available in specialized hospitals. Unfortunately, my insurance company will not cover any more treatments, having already reached a cap. My wife and I have sought out different avenues that would allow me to undergo treatment, including Medicaid; however, because I am not a US Citizen, I am not eligible for Medicaid coverage. I have submitted an application for US Citizenship, but the current wait times for such applications is much longer than the doctors believe I can wait.
Because of my current situation, I am now coming to you, so that I may be considered for your financial assistance. I’ve exhausted every other possibility and time is running out. We are in desperate need of your help. It is distressing to imagine that my son and future daughter will grow up without their father, simply because there was no money for a treatment that was very much available.
If you or anyone else are willing to contribute to this cause please make the donation to:
